NoN Lieu is an important creative partner in the development of interdisciplinary theatre and film productions. For this project, we contributed to the conception and realization of the visual elements for The Nibelung Housing Estate, the contemporary dramatic adaptation by János Térey.

Production Description

In The Nibelung Housing Estate, János Térey reimagines the mythological world of the Nibelungs within the framework of a contemporary residential complex. The Housing Estate and the Tower Block become symbols of modern power structures, inhabited by top entrepreneurs, lawyers, models, and the police officers and firefighters who sustain this miniature society.

The local Norns—the goddesses of fate—keep a watchful eye on the Rhine stock exchange, thriving as long as profits continue to grow. However, a flaw emerges in the system: Hagen, a demigod who has been denied the power he believes he deserves, begins to organize resistance against the established social order.

Blending mythology, social satire, and contemporary political allegory, Térey's drama explores the fragility of power, the mechanisms of control, and the consequences of unchecked ambition. As tensions rise within the carefully constructed world of the Housing Estate, one question remains: will Hagen's rebellion bring about the collapse of the very society that created him?
